The Affirmation

Does anyone know this band? There’s precious little info about them. They seem to have put out one amazing R.E.M.-esque Power Pop masterwork that’s hook riddled (and also a harbinger of the sound of, say, Crash Test Dummies among many others) and disappeared.
This is that kind of record that gets caught in between the spokes of time. It’s too late to catch the first real wave of Power Pop but it’s too early to catch the second wave (and tbh, that second wave didn’t really make much commercial…waves).
If PP is your jam (and it’s definitely mine) this record is a gem and should be added to your Shoes/2020/Knack/Wondermints/Raspberries/Wonderboy/Chew Marble et al collection.
This is one of those weird moments when, searching the band on Facebook, I learned that the lead singer/songwriter and I have a “mutual friend” and I wanna reach out…but I also don’t wanna. You know?

I had the same experience with this one as I did with Dramarama. It’s all surprise, more so because who the fuck has heard of this record? It’s sooooo competent, the songwriting so of it’s era but never feeling dated. Each track had something for me.
