The 1981 Listening Post - The Passage - For All and None

The Passage - For All and None

#303

July 1981

The Passage

For All and None

Genre: Post-Rock

1.75 out of 5

Before I even listen to the album here’s my projected review:

This album is slightly better than the first only because they learned something and made it somewhat more accessible.

See you in 47 minutes.

Absolutely correct. Ever so slightly more listenable than the previous record but not by much. It’s pretentious and dull and self-righteous.

Redeemed only slightly by the aggro-drumming on “Shave Your Head”.

The Passage is the only group that actually qualifies to be examined by The Listening Post that I would argue should be excluded out of pure contempt for their pretentious horribleness.

The 1980 Listening Post - The Passage - Pindrop

 The Passage - Pindrop

#459

November 1980

The Passage

Pindrop

Genre: Meandering and Dull Experimental Post Rock

2 out of 5

Like a cousin to Joy Division, The Passage’s debut is immersive and difficult and a swirling adventure of building rhythms which border on being occasionally atonal and are almost almost fighting with each other in contrapuntal dynamism.

And I have succeeded in writing my most pretentious review ever.

This sounds like a one man project built on indulgence.
