Requisite 80s cover: “Scarborough Fair” by Paul Simon. This is exactly the kind of punk version of this song I was hoping for. Driving, aggressive but not too angry. Like “Vive Las Vegas” it’s them playing a version of the song they love.
There’s something different and charming about midwest punk, in this case it comes very close to Husker Du. It’s a little more laconic, less immediate but none of the assertion is lost. The kind of punk music made my guys who just wanna get the hell out their Kansas town. Or maybe they stay there forever, have a family, and become the very thing they rail about. Or maybe they were railing FOR it. Whatever, let’s slam!
