The 1986 Listening Post - It's Immaterial - Life's Hard and Then You Die

It's Immaterial - Life's Hard and Then You Die

#509 LISTENING POST DISCOVERY
November 24 1986
It’s Immaterial
Life’s Hard and Then You Die
Genre: Experimental Synth-Pop
4.5 out of 5

Highlights:
Driving Away from Home (Jim’s Tune)
Festival Time
Hang On Sleepy Town

This is a weird one, folks. I don’t really know how to describe it. Vocalist John Campbell has a great singing voice but he’s also sing-son speaking much of the time against musicality that brings to mind (to me, at least) Marc and the Mambas and Penguin Cafe Orchestra.
It’s awfully hypnotic. Wholly unique. Uncommercial but never off putting.
What a charming thing, this.
