Ever wonder what John Fogerty would sound like If Jim Steinman arranged “Have you Ever Seen the Rain?”? Wonder no more. That is exactly what the opening to this album is. Oh, that’s an excellent thing, btw.
With Roy Bittan on Keys and Max Weinberg on drums this is a Meat Loaf album in Bonnie Tyler clothing. She was arguably a better medium for his music than Meat, anyway.
You have to love Jim Steinman to really love this album. Fortunately, I think he’s an American genius and I’ve always wanted to produce a jukebox musical of his work.
In case you were wondering, there is a spoken word aside on “Gettin’ So Excited” written by Alan Gruner: “I’d do anything for love but I won’t do that.” I wonder if anyone noticed 8 years later when this phrase would be turned into a 12+ minute chart topping opus?
