What did John Oates do, really? This doesn’t sound much different from the direction DH&JO we’re headed in the 80s, really. 

The lead single is standard contempo-Rock with a terrifically catchy chorus and not much else. 

And every song was over 60-90 seconds before they finally pulled the plug. 

There’s a lot of forgettable wannabe soul that, to be honest, I think producer Dave Stewart can and has done better with his own band. This is just dull.

Out of Touch

Boy, Americans in 1984 spent a lot of money on really mediocre music, man.
Hall & Oates really found that sweet spot with Private Eyes, and I was hopeful that they would continue to push that American blue-eyed soul with deeper hooks and even more catchiness. I could not have been more wrong. This is...you know that this makes me think of? If Every cut was Phil Collins "Sussudio" over and over and no one noticed because it was just on in the background anyway.
There is actually a song here called "Going Through the Motions".
I'll say.
