The 1980 Listening Post - Berlin - Information

Berlin - Information

1980 Housekeeping

Berlin

Information

Genre: Where’s Terri Nunn?

2 out of 5

Lowlights:

Middle Class Suicide

Apparently she quit this band to follow an acting career before they recorded their first record and the band replaced her with someone who sounds like Dale Bozzio desperate to front Devo.

Did anyone know this album existed? It’s not even listed on the allmusic discography for the band.

Before Missing Persons cornered this sound, Berlin was there and, you know what? It’s meh. The songs are pretty dull but the thing is, they seem to go on and on forever.

The 1986 Listening Post - Berlin - Count Three & Pray

Berlin - Count Three & Pray

#432/2111
October 13 1986
Berlin
Count Three & Pray
Genre: Rock
4 out of 5

Highlights:
Will I Ever Understand You
Trash
When Love Goes to War
Pink and Velvet

Welp, I think this is it for Berlin, yes? They bring in Bob Ezrin to produce. Get Ted Nugent and Elliot Easton and David Gilmour to play guitar on it. Score a massive hit that they didn’t write and still can’t sell any records.
The writing is on the vinyl.
The label picked all the wrong songs for singles, obviously. Except that big one and I just can’t bring myself to highlight it.

The 1984 Listening Post - Berlin - Love Life

Berlin - Love Life

#54
March 12 1984
Berlin
Love Life
3 out of 5

Highlights:
Touch
No More Words
Fall

I’m sorry, Terri, I’ve got little patience now for mediocre synth pop. Pleasure Victim was somewhat edgy. This is not.
I’ve seen Berlin in concert (the 80s festival thing I went to last fall) and the words NO one ever wants to hear in 2018 is “Here’s something from our new album” from Berlin.
Terri sounds great here but the songs are, for the most part, not. The singles work, though, and I guess that’s enough for them.
