The 1984 Listening Post - Anthrax - Fistful of Metal

Anthrax - Fistful of Metal

Anthrax
Fistful of Metal
3 out of 5

Highlights:
Panic
Death from Above

Ok, let’s settle in to the soft yacht rock sounds of…what’s this band’s name?

Oh.

:)

Hmm…this sounds like a band that is stuck between their love for Priest and a desire to push the form forward somehow. It’s no Metallica, or Slayer, though and it’s no heyday Priest or Sabbath. Reminds me a bit of Anvil at their least interesting. They get it right on songs like “Panic”, by sheer force of will of the players and “Death from Above”, the most Judas of all the Priest wannabes.
This is a showcase of shredding but not much in terms of originality. I know that Anthrax is considered one of the grandparents of modern metal and there are hints of that here but Kill ‘em All this isn’t.
