Bongos. That’s what I hear. Bongos. I guess, if you don’t have a drummer and, honestly, how many times have bands looked at the drummer and said, “Why do we bother?” (I keed, I keed) 
This is a weirdo subway busker new wave thing where nothing sounds like anything else and yet it all sounds like it came from the same person. And, in researching, it did. 
It looks like the 80s are really the coming of age of self-produced weirdo art rock projects. Some of them are terrific, xex, Daniel Johnston, some of them are plodding and self indulgent and leave no question as to why they didn’t amount too much. 
Stick with Billy Bragg.
