I hate the Roches.
Well, maybe not hate. It’s a pretty strong word. But, let’s be real, they are awful most of the time.
You know who wasn’t awful? The Murmurs. Loved that single “You Suck”.
Also Marine Girls. And All Girl Summer Fun Band.
And Haim. I like Haim. Well, most of their songs, actually.
Ooh! I also loved early Lisa Germano, although she’s in dire need of some Prozac on those records.

I have never heard of Tiny Lights. Take out the electric guitars from The Bangles and that’s this sound.
But that just means it’s excellent without being commercial. Well, that’s not fair. There are electric guitars but they are used like scalpels to scrape away to soft edges.

John Hamilton, the guitarist and co-songwriter here, is a Harvard professor of comparative literature and I am intimidated and in awe of this.
Jane Scarpantoni’s musical resume is dauntingly impressive.
