The 1985 Listening Post - April Wine - Walking Through Fire

April Wine - Walking Through Fire

#373/1009
September 1985
April Wine
Walking Through Fire
Genre: Rock
3 out of 5

Okay, is it me? That first track, “Rock Myself to Sleep” sounds like it fell off a Cheap Trick record, no? Should it surprise anyone that it’s by Kimberly Rew of Katrina and the Waves and it’s the catchiest track on this record? Most of it is pretty standard issue but “All It Will Ever Be” is a pretty good Zeppelin approximation, belying their true aspirations.
I’ve only heard about 3 or 4 April Wine records and The Nature of the Beast is fantastic, we can all agree on that, yes? This is about as straight a ride for the middle of the road as one could imagine from a band that never really aspired to anything more.
If you love Loverboy, this is a lot like Loverboy, but if you love Loverboy, get a Loverboy album.
