The 1983 Listening Post - Lou Reed - Legendary Hearts

Lou Reed - Legendary Hearts

Does anyone actually listen to Lou Reed music? Who is this for?
Lou Reed does one thing I love that Jenny Lewis is a master of as well: fitting words into lyric lines that shouldn’t hit the cadence correctly but he makes it right in a way that just seems to teeter on falling apart but always rights its own ship to remain listenable.
But speak singing can wear very thin after a while.
Another name for this record could be the Legend of Diminishing Returns as it gets weary & wearily repetitive quickly.
I’m really struck by how much Conor Oberst sounds like Lou. But Conor can hold a note. Please, Lou, stop singing…If this was a record, halfway through “Betrayed” I would’ve ripped the needle off the thing and broken it in two.
