The 1980 Listening Post - Ivy & the Teachers -Ivy & the Teachers

Ivy & the Teachers - Ivy & the Teachers

Ivy & the Teachers

Ivy & the Teachers

Genre: New Wave

2.25 out of 5

We start the year with Pam Windo, it’s fitting that we get near the end with another female led New Wave joint.

Ivy and her band is from Belgium, so there’s little chance of her album getting stateside in 1980.

Did we miss out?

In an era lousy with this kind of music (and yet, no one talks about just how littered the landscape was with female driven new wave/rock outfits in the early 80s) there’s not much here to launch it over the pond. Let alone from Belgium to anywhere.

We are missing track 3 but I’m not sure I’m sad about that. Here’s the thing: better the production and write some actual good songs that are more than just ska tunes and you could be No Doubt. That’s who this sounds like.

Wrong time. Wrong country.

Sorry, Ms. Vonck. It’s a shame cuz the better tracks are the ones you are credited on, solely.
