The 1980 Listening Post - The Forgotten Rebels - This Ain’t Hollywood

The Forgotten Rebels - This Ain’t Hollywood

May 1982

The Forgotten Rebels

This Ain’t Hollywood

Genre: Canadian Punk

4 out of 5

Highlights:

Hello Hello (I’m Back Again)

Memory Lane

Surfin’ on Heroin

Rhona Barret

The Me Generation

Requisite 80s Cover: “Eve of Destruction” which is fine and punky but in NO way nearly as fun as The Dickies’ version. Skip it.

Also “Save the Last Dance for Me” which sounds more like…The Dickies!

This is straight up Ramones style punk with a nasal filled with snot vox (which, I guess, sort of describes Joey as well, huh?).

The lyrics are hard to make out but when you do, they are smart and fun and snarky and almost worth the 40 minutes.

This is the Pop Punk a full decade+ before Green Day would launch it into the stratosphere. But, as I’ve said about other bands (like Blotto), these guys were there first. They don’t quite have it but you can hear where they could with the right management.
