The 1980 Listening Post - Blackjack - Worlds Apart

 Blackjack - Worlds Apart

April 4 1980

Blackjack

Worlds Apart

Genre: Soulful Rock

3.25 out of 5

I feel compelled to just C/P the first line from the Wiki entry:

Worlds Apart is the second and final album of the American rock band Blackjack. The album was met with nearly total indifference,[2] sold poorly[3] and Blackjack disbanded shortly after its release.”

Yep.

Except that, somehow, two tracks by this band have been sampled by Kanye and Jay Z over the years.

But, what is Blackjack and why does it sound so….familiar?

Why, the lead singer is…Michael Bolton. Michael Unctuous Bolton (His real middle name, I believe). And Bruce Kulick (brother of Bob Kulick) is a great guitarist who is, of course, wasted here.

This opens with a cover which is actually hard to discern cuz they do a pretty good job of making it their own. But then the album is as much anonymous 80s AOR as you would expect out of the pipes of Bolton.
