Genre: Demented Rock
4 out of 5

Creep In the Cellar
Strangers Die Every Day
I don’t know how you describe Butthole Surfers. Just like Another Man’s Sac, this one is a hodgepodge of dementia. There’s a sea shanty, horror, condemnation, instrumental meditation…
I would like to point out that, during “Whirling Hall of Knives”, my wife was blow drying her hair in the bathroom and, at first, I wasn’t entirely sure that it wasn’t part of the recording.
I really wish I had heard these guys before they hit it big with “Pepper” so I could have laughed and said, “You think THAT was weird!?!? Dude, you need to listen to their cover of “American Woman” off Rembrandt Pussyhorse. THAT was fucking weird, bro.”
And, no, I wouldn’t have probably said “bro”. But, mark my words, no one who uses “bro” was listening to Rembrandt Pussyhorse.
Man, “Perry” is some brutal shit.
The album gets mired in its own sludge toward the end, so points off for that. It should have been an EP. Whatever. It’s worth it.
