Blue in Heaven
Explicit Material
Genre: 80s rock
4 out of 5

Highlights:
Tell Me
Rolling in the Crowd

I think we might have start a sub-genre called “U2ish” as the 80s plod on. This is another band that sounds like it descended from the lush soundscape laden production studios of the Irish lads (but, also, that same sound that reminds me of Midnight Oil or Simple Minds).
They aren’t bad. Shane O’Neill’s voice sounds like John Darnielle and really doesn’t fit the music but boy I am confused as to why they didn’t have more success in U2’s shadow.
“Just Another Day” is a great example of biting hard on their mentors and coming close enough to make it into something but, dang, that voice. It works well on stuff like “Be Your Man”.
All told, this is a neat little entry into mid-80s rock. It’s almost a “Discovery” but it’s too much of a U2 knock off but, if you’ve never heard of U2, then it’s excellent.
