One More Twist
Genre: New Wave
4 out of 5
Highlights:
Watching You
Relax
This is weird. John sounds like just about every New Wave band of the era but he also never sounds the same on each song.
However he manages come across like a burgeoning alternative off off Broadway composer, achieving a LOT of his intention through simple chorus repetitions.
John is not very inviting. He’s difficult and, I imagine, purposely so.
Even when he dabbles in the obligatory reggae sound that permeated every New Wave album (I Know It Now) he falls just short of keeping your attention beyond coming across like an abrasive Police man.
Weirdly, this album feels timeless. It doesn’t feel especially 1982. Some of it works in 2021.
