The 1981 Listening Post - Marianus - Visions From Out of the Blue

Marianus - Visions From Out of the Blue

1981 Housekeeping

Marianus

Visions From out of the Blue

Genre: ProgRock

Within 30 seconds you hear Sparks, ELO, Queen and a ton of Glam and it’s so weird. It feels like it should have come out in 1975 when people cared about this stuff but, then they would have had to write actual songs.

Ok. It’s weird. The drummer of this band and I have a mutual friend. But he’s not a musician. I met the guy when he was in the administration for AFTRA. Good guy so it does make sense he would know musicians. But HOW THE FUCK DO I HAVE A MUTUAL FRIEND WITH A MEMBER OF THIS OBSCURE BAND THAT PUT OUT ONE RECORD AND NO ONE KNOWS ANYTHING ABOUT THEM!?!?!?

And they aren’t really good enough for me to reach out and say, “Hey, can I send a note to your buddy Joe and ask him about this loser of a prog rock project?”

Side One is a discombobulatuted and meandering nightmare of the worst prog impulses. Side Two seeeeeeeeems to want to be some kind of concept thing but, holy mess, Batman.

Marianus’ voice is all sorts of terrible.

As is this thing.

Someone on YouTube wrote: “My all time favorite album.  The Change Is Gonna Come, Human Race, Human Race & Prelude+Magical Man!!! PROG LINE Thank you very much again! Amazing post!” And I really think someone needs to step in and help that person.
