In the World

I know GE from being the band leader during SNL’s return to form in the mid-80s.

And his marriage to Gilda Radner.

But I never heard his own music.

It’s like realizing that Nils Lofgren put out albums before he was in the E Street Band.

I know that Bob Clearmountain worked the knobs for this and that’s it. I don’t know who the players are. This is solid 80s Power Pop. It’s smart and short.

It’s reminiscent of The Cars and Martin Briley. The former really showing it’s side on “James Brown”.

If I could get confessional pop like “Nuns with Guns” on every Power Pop record, I would be extremely happy.

I’ve already written “Discovery” up top before I’ve fired up Side Two and “Powerman” came roaring on and I am rest assured that I’m correct.

There’s even an overproduced guitar extravaganza tucked into the requisite faux-reggae of “Fake O’ the Land”.

This, surprisingly, might be one of my favorite albums of 1981.
