I wish I knew about this album in 1995.
In 1995 I was one of the main actors on a short lived detective show called Charlie Grace and, when we were cancelled (very quickly) I was at the wrap party and mentioned to Jay Gruska, who wrote the theme songs, that I really liked the theme song and he gave me a cassette of it. A cassette that I no longer have.
But, had I known about Maxus I could have chatted him up about this middle of the road Toto-esque rock offering of which he was the lead singer. And this all sounds just like what 90s tv show theme songs sound like.
Good for you, Jay. You got off the hamster wheel and became a star in your own right.
This is tepid and turgid. They could have named this album that. Maxus sounds like a big metal excursion. This is not that.
They do really show their chops on that last song. “Where Were You”. But it’s a lot too late.
