When The Piper Downs played my wedding, Bobby Bognar mentioned a songlist including "Drivin' & Cryin'". I had never heard of them. Shame on me.
So, when I saw Painters and Dockers I thought the same thing.
I have absolutely never heard of this band. There's virtually no info on them.
But, guess what, folks?
This shit is straight up rock and roll great. Fun, funny, tight, taut, and most excellent.
Would I be wrong to call them an Australian Madness? With a touch of Aquabats?
Side One has a cheekiness to it that culminates in the goofy "Love Planet", a weird mid-tempo bit that is about exactly what the title states.
I am interested enough to turn the record over on these Aussies.
Good thing I did. Boy do they pick back up "Gun for Fun" and "Mohawk Baby"? Gimme. That shit is like The Clash if they had a sense of humor and met The Cramps in a dark alley.
