There's a band that keeps coming up on playlists whenever I listen to "Power Pop". They are the Spongetones and they have one amazing song, "She Goes Out with Everybody". Their reputation is huge but I've never heard anything else by them.
The Orange Peels are the same. "Circling Around the Sun" is a fantastic song. I won't give them the time of day.
The landscape is littered with them.
Add The Modulators to that list.
As good as The Knack, The Romantics or any other melodic rock band of the late 70s, the Modulators were too late.
I wish they put out more. Or I knew what happened to them.
This album is excellent. Their version of "My Back Pages" is perfection.
I want to hear The Andersons play "Rainy Day Girl".
I want to be in that audience with my best girl and I want to sway and dance and be transported.
I will return to this.
Extra points for just being able to write good rock and roll songs and for disappearing into the ephemera of rock's tapestry.
