Genre: Prog Rock

Highlights:

Can’t Let Go

Steve Hackett has something. He must. He keeps putting records out and none of them are great. So, either he had a hit at one time that garnered him a multi-album deal or he has compromising pictures of a label exec or he just knows where to score the good coke.

Okay, okay, I know who Steve Hackett is. He was the guitarist for Genesis during their weirdest days and I think he proves why they were that way through what he puts out as solo material. None of it is great and all of it’s is semi-comprehensible but all of it is progressive and pretentious and I’m sure there are Hackett fans just as I am sure there are people who enjoy beets.

Hackett is one of the early progenitors of the tapping technique made popular by EVH and I guess there’s a place for him in rock history for that. He sure does shred on the “Air Conditioned Nightmare”. And there is some minstrel fun on “Overnight Sensation”.
