Brave New World

Teddy Boys Picnic

Requisite 80s Cover:

A spiffy and bizarre cover of “Get Off My Cloud” that would fit neatly on Dr. Demento’s show. So much so that I didn’t recognize it and then, when the chorus hit I thought they were interpolating and nodding to that song. Excellent.

Too bad Australia is on the other side of the world because a band like Jimmy and the Boys seemed to be right in the perfect musical spot for ride the New Wave wave but, damn son, that’s a long ways away. But that’s a damned shame because this is a perfect platter to pair with The Rezillos and Fingerprintz. And we all know how much I adore that Rezillos album.

Everything we loved about New Wave as we knew it…angular, sort of deranged, with saxophones, is all here. Imma go on a limb and also say that they have some of that 70s Tubes mania tossed in.

This record is a terrific example of what we are searching for: A gem that there is no way we would have even known about were it not for stream ability
