Silent Running is a great science fiction movie directed by Douglass Trumbull about a space station responsible for the last greenery from Earth, it’s protection and the madness of the astronauts. It also has cute robots that predated “droids”.
Boy, did I love that movie as a kid.
Silent Running the band is a synth group trafficking in epic emo. Like Camel meets Duran Duran. More fun than Pallas. Not as esoteric as Simple Minds. Not as sexy as Duran. It’s SynthU2 but the lead singer just thinks he’s great, not God.
The title track is so U2 it screams “let us re-record it in a church, dammit!” I love The Unforgettable Fire as much as the next guy but I am lost as to why this didn’t have even 1/10th the impact.
This record has 1984 hit machine all over it? What happened? Why did we get saddled with Saga??? And Marillion? And, ffs, INXS????  “Sticks and Stones” is everything I want to love about INXS done correctly.
