Voodoo Taxi
Give some accessibility to Nick Cave’s darkest impulses and that’s the leadoff track, “Maximum G”.
From there it’s just bass driven middling goth. Big in France does not a career make.
By halfway through I’m fairly convinced this is an Echo and the Bunnymen cover band that was told they couldn’t cover any echo songs so tried to rewrite them. And failed.
It’s right around “Rasputin” that I find myself longing for the poppier sounds of post-Bauhaus Love and Rockets. Which is just the natural outgrowth of this sound, I think.
