Folk of the 80s Part III

Oh, you thought Dancy synth pop was done. WrongO. I never liked Ivan Doroschuk’s determinedly important voice. It reminds me of Midnight Oil. It’s not really singing as much as it’s warbling in tune. And I’ve always found him to be too distracting in that way. If you can get past it, and I would commend you for that) the intensity and energy of tracks like “Where Do the Boys Go” are actually frenetic enough to be somewhat enjoyable. Even the 7+ minute “Mother’s Opinion” while basically filling up the end of Side One isn’t interminable, to be hated.
It’s telling that my favorite track is the instrumental “eurotheme”, which could just be repurposed for the second season of Space 1999.
MwH would have us believe that the “folk of the 80s” is technodribble and, while I’m at it, Part III??? Where is part 2?
You know an album isn’t holding your interest when we start discussing the title. That said, the title track is a sardonic discussion about what folk is, what it means to different eras and it shows a rather healthy sense of humor (as does “Messiahs Die Young”. I’d like to hear them with Cristina as their lead singer.
