NOFX has a spinoff band called Me First and the Gimme Gimmes. Specializing in punk versions of covers, something that has become de rigeur in that scene (and not new, see: The Dickies). I’ve never heard of Feederz but opening your album with a hardcore version of one of my favorite soft rock songs in 70s history, Olivia Newton John’s “Have You Never Been Mellow” is alternately great and bizarre. Great cuz, well, love that song. Bizarre because the bandfills the rest of the album with plenty of their own acceptable but not earth shattering punk tunes. Maybe that’s why they did it. Or maybe that’s because the leader Frank Discussion is a dyed in the wool anarchist who wraps his albums in sandpaper. For those interested, the drummer on this is Dead Kennedys’ DH Peligro. And some of it sounds SO much like DKs but doesn’t have the lacerating humor. Although “Stayfree” is sort of hilarious.
