The guitars…on that title track…are they made of rubber? Who plays like this? Tatler, who was only 20 when this record was released is something to listen to. All the elements of 80s metal are here. Screchingly in key vox? Yep. Sean Harris has got that covered? Guitar god riffs and licks? I mentioned Tatler. But the bass and drums, while not mic’d or mixed well, are not only keeping up but, like a good in the pocket metronome and driver, give Brian something to chase.
I’ve never heard of Diamond Head before the Listening Post. It would seem that any metallurgist would already know them. This thing is fire, despite the shitty production. Maybe even because it’s able to transcend it.
You know the big song from this album if you follow Metallica. They covered “Am I Evil”. Both versions kill.
