The 1983 Listening Post - T-Bone Burnett - Proof Through the Night

T-Bone Burnett - Proof Through the Night

1983 Housekeeping
T Bone Burnett
Proof Through the Night
4 out of 5
Highlights:
The Murder Weapon
After All These Years
Hefner and Disney
Unmistakably 80s with it’s giant echoey drums and hybridization of styles, Burnett achieves something few have done in the year’s retrospective: create a genuinely interesting record that appeals to the high minded adults and dorm-dwellers alike. A slice of Americana that is exemplified by it’s international guest players (Mick Ronson of Spiders from Mars, Pete Townshend, Masakazu Yoshizawa, Ry Cooder). A totally pleasant and admirable record. There’s something genuinely weird about Burnett for me. He seems to be one of the most appreciated artists/producers of the modern era and yet we never talk about him, his music almost at all. That’s what this record feels like. Something great that will enrich your life but if you don’t hear it you won’t be lesser for not hearing it. And you won’t be better off for hearing it except that you will enjoy it while it’s on.
