If Crass was more listenable they might sound like Subhumans. This is the sound of jackhammers as rock band. Is that bad? I don’t think so. It’s so much more listenable than, say, Misfits or the aforementioned crapfest that was Crass.
The songs don’t stick around long enough to hate them. In 1983 I bet this album played at a lot of drunken basement punk parties.
On “Wake Up Screaming” just about every horror punk band wished they could’ve attempted this. It’s alternately terrifying and explosively engaging.
I could start this album from the start and listen immediately.
And the title track is just an epic prog-punk experience.
