Did you know that “(You Can Still) Rock in America”? Night Ranger would like you to know that.
Joking aside, this band put out a really good straight forward rock album just one year before and decide to throw down the gauntlet again and, once again, they put out a solid arena ready slate of Power Rock radio friendly songs. I think it’s Brad Gillis handling the shredding and he’s a force.
The bit hit on this album, the one the band is known for, much like KISS’s “Beth” was written and performed by…the drummer. It was written as “Sister Christy” about his kid sister who was 10 years young er than he (she still is, I assume) and he was surprised at how fast she was growing up.
You know you love that song. Whether Boogie Nights did it for you or the pummeling of MTV, it’s a good 80s rock rock song. But “Why Does Love Have to Change” and "Chipping Away" are rock solid as well. And never overstay their welcomes.
When people ask me about what surprises I found on this project I always forget to mention that Night Ranger is the better of the Loverboy-esque bands of the era.
BTW, If you want to get tickets to see Night Ranger in West Andover, NV next week, you can’t. They are sold out.
Who knew?
