I loved Kix’s first album which I thought was an excellent Glam Metal entry. But I’ve never heard their follow up. Let’s see how that fares.
The guitar lick is straight out of Cheap Trick’s playbook. And then the vocals come in and…it doesn’t really work. Because Steve Whiteman isn’t Robin Zander and Brian Divens is no Rick Nielsen.
None of this really works. They’ve abandoned the glam for some new wave pop sound and they really shouldn’t have.
Side Two opens with the rocker “Mighty Mouth” and it’s a welcome change.
If Side two was Side One and Side One built on that, this might be a winner. As it is I can’t wait to not hear Kix ever again.
