Did it just take this long for Rock n Roll to reach Scotland for the Shakin’ Pyramids to put out a stellar recreation of 1950s rock?

I Keed. I love Scotland. Socttish bands. Scottish liquor. Kilts!

Brian Setzer had to leave America to get traction for his revival sound, not 20 years after the birth of RnR. In fact, this is only 18 years or so from the Beatles first records. I’m sort of astounded that this had the explosion it did. And I’m sure there are articles and books written about why it happened and why it happened there instead of here first but, this record…damn it if this isn’t slavishly devoted to that Crickets sound. But there’s zero updating happening here, as with Power Poppers. This is straight up homage.

For what it is, it’s dynamite. But, The Cats got there first and set the bar. This doesn’t quite reach it. But, damn, it’s good.
