The Danny Joe Brown Band

Danny Joe Brown and the Danny Joe Brown Band

Genre: Southern Rock

3.5 out of 5

Highlights:

The Alamo

Edge of Sundown

Do you like Molly Hatchet?

Let’s pretend you do. We have to pretend because Hatchett’s just okay, as far as Southern Rock goes. I mean, I’ve heard a TON of Molly Hatchet records and none of them crack higher than 3.5 and that includes Flirtin’ with Disaster.

Well, this is the lead singer from that band.

Who LEFT THE BAND after that monster hit album to put out an album that sounds like watered down Hatchet, which is already pretty watered down to begin with.

And not only does he call his band The Danny Joe Brown Band he has the audacity to step outside the band to make sure you know that he is Danny Joe fucking Brown and he is the front man of the Danny Joe Brown Band, dammit!

I mean, there’s no Danny Joe Brown Band without him. It’s his fucking band. What is that meeting like?

“Hey guys, we’re gonna call ourselves the Danny Joe Brown Band.”

“Makes sense. I mean, you are the lead singer who fronted a monster record last year. We should capitalize on your success.”

All the bandmates grumble in agreement.

“Thing is…and this is important…”
The band leans in…

“The name of the album is going to be…Danny Joe Brown and the Danny Joe Brown Band.”

“um…dude” They all call each other “Dude” cuz it’s 1981 and they are from the south and that’s not a SoCal skater thing yet.

“Yes? You have a question, Buzzy?”

“Yeah…I know I just play the bass…but…and I mean this with all respect….do you think anyone won’t know that it’s your band? I mean, we are all in agreement…we should be called the Danny Joe Brown Band…do you really need to hammer that home? Seems redundant.”

“Redundant!?!? I don’t know the meaning of the word!!!”

Ingram chimes in, “Redundant means —“

“I KNOW WHAT IT MEANS! I just mean that….wait…what does it mean????! GLYN!?!?”

Glyn John pipes in, “The label wants to call the album, Danny Joe Brown and the Danny Joe Brown Band.”

And that’s probably how this piece of stupidity happened.

Other than that, the record is about on par with other Hatchet stuff. Multi-guitar attack pucker up with growly vocals and jangly piana.
