The 1980 Listening Post - The Records - Crashes

The Records - Crashes

#251

June 13 1980
The Records
Crashes
Genre: Power Pop
3.75 out of 5

Highlights:
Hearts in Her Eyes
Man with a Girlproof Heart
Hearts Will Be Broken

We don’t talk about The Records. They have one song that everyone knows “Starry Eyes”, which is really the template for Jangle Pop and I still to this day believe that REM stole their entire sound from a band that NOBODY talks about.
They are easily as talented as the great Power Poppers of the day. Maybe it’s because they weren’t from England that we talk about Squeeze and not The Records. They are just as good. They aren’t as desperate and assertive as, say, The Romantics. They aren’t as gentle as The Raspberries. But, man oh man, they do not disappoint.
There’s no place in the world for The Records in 1980, really. But, for delicious Power Pop, one could certainly do worse.
This playlist omits the last track but if you are a Power Pop fan, Smashes, Crashes and Near Misses best of should be in your collection.
