Artful Dodger was a band on the wrong side of time. If they put this record out 10 years before it might be considered a classic of the post-psychedelic garage variety. If they put it out 5 years later, they catch on to the Paisley Revival. Instead, they are on an island with no one listening. Like the Queen Annes. A band in amber or ahead of their time.
The Stones runs through the Dodgers’ blood thick and I would have loved to see them on a bill with Jason and the Scorchers. Does Billy Paliselli sound like Rod Stewart? Yes. But, damnit his songs are better and, actually, so is his voice.
It’s a sin that this album isn’t available on the major services. What a gem this is.
