I always got The The confused with The Glove. I don’t know the difference cuz I’ve never listened to either. My freshman year roommate in college, a hulking beast of anger, had a great record collection and a short fused temper. He once grabbed me by the throat and threatened to beat the shit out of me because I was telling my mother, over the phone, that he had a great record collection.
I also stole his television every night to watch Mary Tyler Moore until 3 in the morning cuz, fuck him.
He had both of those records and, if he played them I didn’t know, cuz he lived in a different room and was not inviting.
Maybe it was me.
I wonder whatever happened to him.
The big hit on this album is “This is the Day” and it conjures so many vivid memories of New York in the 80s. Movies at Cinema Village. Smoking cigarettes in the dorm on rainy Sundays. I think I went to classes, other than acting…maybe…I don’t remember. It was all day-Glo and filth.
I’m glad I waited. This is a treat after a lot of the crap I’ve been forcing myself to listen to.
It runs out of steam at the end, but, if I was tripping at a club at 2 in the morning, “Giant” would work for me.
