Well, this is about as low fi as we have gotten on this archeological dig.
Bass. Drums. Vocals. a hint of guitar...but just one string…is that a keyboard? Where did it go? Wait! Come back, you tease. This minimalist dance music is like stripped down 60s and would make a great companion to Duck Rock.
This is the first album on this journey that feels like being in a New York club in the village in the early 80s.
Wikipedia lists this as Post-punk and avant-funk. Apple Music puts it in the hip hop category. It defies any of that categorization because it’s none of that. It’s actually closer to Gang of Four. I wonder if any of these tracks have been mined for sampling in any hip hop tracks? They should be.
