The 1983 Listening Post - Electric Light Orchestra - Secret Messages

Electric Light Orchestra - Secret Messages

#106
June 1983
Electric Light Orchestra
Secret Messages
3 out of 5
If The Beatles did not exist there would be music, to be sure. It would sound different but I imagine that rock would’ve found other forms and iterations.
But, without a doubt, Jeff Lynne would’ve done something else. His slavish devotion to that Revolver - Let it Be Beatles era is unabashed, man.
It’s weird how ELO can sound like 10 other bands and yet you distinctively know it’s them when you hear them.
Highlights:
Bluebird
Four Little Diamonds (which is really just a redux of Don’t Let Me Down, no?)
Danger Ahead
Rock and Roll is King
This album has additional tracks. I only listened to those on the LP and in this order:
No. Title Length
1. "Secret Messages" 4:44
2. "Loser Gone Wild" 5:27
3. "Bluebird" 4:13
4. "Take Me On and On" 4:57
Total length: 19:23
Side Two
No. Title Length
1. "Four Little Diamonds" 4:05
2. "Stranger" 4:27
3. "Danger Ahead" 3:52
4. "Letter from Spain" 2:51

6. "Rock 'n' Roll Is King" 3:49
Total length: 23:24
