It Only Hurts When I Breath
I think this is music for aging silent generation kids. It’s edgeless but it sounds like rock. I can imagine a bunch of people losing their relevancy. Or afraid that they are or might be. They see their Gen X kids nipping at their heels and gravitating toward something they might not understand, like punk or metal but they aren’t ready to give up the ship yet.
See, Boomers are only about 36 at the high end at this point. They are the driving force in commerce. And they will be for a while. But Boomers didn’t give birth to Gen Xers. Every generation raises a generation removed. Boomers raised Millenials. GenX is raising GenZ. It’s not cut in hard shapes, it’s fluid.
This is music for people who were in their 40s and beyond in 1981. It’s not offensive while at the same time listening to it you might feel like you are still a part of the scene.
You are not.
It’s borderline unctuous. Cross the border and buy your damned Peter Lemongello record and wear that mood ring.
This isn’t Key Party music. It’s music you hear in the background in a movie about Key Parties.
For a 40 minute record, it really feels like 2 hours.
