Are You All Mine
Genre: New Wave
3.5 out of 5
Highlights:
Cold Light of Day
Men in a Million
A Scottish band that we almost missed.
Funky New Wave + saxophone results in relatively mundane and toothless dance rock.
The title track is a bit of Russian influenced fun and, truth be told, they aren’t terrible. For instance, there’s a menace to “Addicts of the First Night” but, like I said, it’s a wee toothless.
I can’t help but feel as though these guys had all the Roxy Music records and then decided to start a band.
There’s a lot of stuff here that will work fine in a playlist for your next backyard party but if you concentrate too hard, there’s nothing to write home about. I mean, sure, “Men in a Million” bites hard on “Peter Gunn” but if it’s low enough in the background no one will notice and, if someone does say, “Hey, what is this?” You get to say, “Oh, this is an obscure Scottish band from the 80s called, bizarrely, ‘Albania’. Their 1981 album is a fun little dance rock record. Listen closely and you will hear strains of ‘Somewhere Over the Rainbow’ at the end as if fades out.”
And you will DEFinitely sound smart and not like an obsessive music nerd.
