The Patriotic Song

Our final Canadian entry for 1980 is this band from Ontario and, for me, it does still contain some of that secret sauce.

It’s as clean and well produced as just about anything I’ve heard from the Great White North. And that track, “The Patriotic Song” is the only unabashed pro-Canada song I’ve heard. It’s funny, because Canadians are hilarious but it’s the closest anyone up there has ever gotten to jingo-ism. I mean, “If you don’t love it, you can leave” is some pretty aggressive positioning, I gotta say. It’s nearly American.

There’s just enough groove to keep it from the edge and yet, enough edge to keep it from being Wild Cherry. In this album I hear the roots of Barenaked Ladies and The Presidents of the United States of America.

Not a terrible spinner. Not really reinventing the wheel. Just a bunch of Canucks having a good time.

Again. This won’t be up long.
