The 1980 Listening Post - Orphann - Don't Say No

 Orphann - Don't Say No

1980 Housekeeping

Orphann

Don’t Say No

Genre: Late 70s Rock

4 out of 5

Highlights:

Don’t Say No

Losin’ Control

Doesn’t it Feel Good

I think these guys are trying to reach for that Boston branch and they merge it with The Byrds sensibilities and, you know what? That works.

I have no idea who these cats are but they seem to have a hold on that burgeoning 80s sound that grew out of a 70s aesthetic, bridging Boogie Rock and Southern Rock and aiming to be the Stillwater of the times.

The lead singer here would go on to become a cinematographer and work for the Food Network. He’s now a photographer in Kansas City.

This is a much better record that I would have expected from a self-produced project like this. Assured and strong, tightly played and even prog-rocky at the end.

I dig it.
