Chris Spedding - I'm Not Like Everybody Else

November 1980

Chris Spedding

I’m Not Like Everybody Else

Genre: New Wave/Rock

2.25 out of 5

Highlights:

I Got a Feeling

It’s one thing to open your record with a cover but to name that record after that cover???

What are you doing here, Chris?

Sure, this Ray Davis tune is good. But The Cry did it much better. And their version didn’t sound like you were sludging your way home to your east side apartment at 3 in the morning after an all night binge at Area.

Is Spedding Lou Reed? Did he want to be Lou Reed?  This smells like Lou.

Spedding had a long career of working on records by artists that never rocked my boat (save his guitar work on Tom Waits’ Rain Dogs).

He’s not charismatic enough nor are his songs interesting enough to sustain headlining.

“Contract”, anyone? Ugh, what a slog.
