Well, we are opening with a cover. It’s the single “Come On”, which crackles with a Power Pop verve would set the tone for the whole record but then the second track turns hard into Americana via J. Geils Band and I’m betwixt.
I don’t love opening with covers, it often suggests that your own material isn’t up to snuff. But, in this case, I feel more like it’s a tone setter. This is a growly Power Pop outfit that delivers, on their own tracks or even on the occasional cover, like the aforementioned and the Beatles “You Can’t Do That”. But, truth is, we really don’t know what that was like in the studio since what we have is the live version.
“Late Late Show” is what it would be like if Lemmy fronted a Power Pop band.
Even though two of the tracks are live, we are giving this one a spin cuz, well, it’s pretty delicious at times. And the live tracks give you a sense of what this Dutch band might have been had they been able to make any headway outside of Holland. Too bad. Judging by this record, they could’ve made quite the splash.
Shame we are missing a couple tracks. That plus the live pair prevent this from being a “Discovery”.
