I’m Wonderful

Rock from London!

London, Ontario, Canada.

There is no wheel reinvention here. It’s solid bar band cover stuff with some ‘riginals tossed in. And a of the Gilligan’s Island theme that sounds like The Four Postmen recorded it.

This band does answer the age old question, “How many covers of ‘Secret Agent Man’ does the world need?” Answer: however many there are, minus one.

Oh, that’s not entirely fair. It’s perfectly adequate. It’s just not necessary. I mean, the lead line is good, they nailed it. And if say, The Surfrajettes did a version, I’m sure I would love it. But here, it’s filler because that’s what this band really is, a bar band that has a couple tunes of their own. And hell has a special place for whoever thought their breathless version of “Along the Watchtower” needed to be included here.

One of those: “Chinese Soup” is like the 50th track written by The Beat Farmers that they were smart enough to leave off every single record. “I’m Wonderful” is a neat little Rockabilly number that brings to mind Matchbox more than the Stray Cats. If it was released in 1958 it could have been a hit for someone. “’53 Buick” is pedestrian. Like they came up with the riff in practice and went with it. It’s fine. If forgettable.
