Hey Nadine

At first glance this seems like just another radio friendly, if rather uninteresting, set of pedestrian rock songs.

And it is.

And there’s precious little info about them.

But one quick trip to the Discogs page about this record told the truth and this record is connected to The Listening Post and my band, Throttle Back Sparky.

This is Waddy Wachtel’s project. An album he wrote with Linda Ronstadt’s backing band that was produced by Peter Asher. And they do go out of their way to try to make Waddy sound like Don Henley. I get it. Waddy is a heckuva player. And not a bad singer. Why not give it a shot.

How is he related to the LP? And, more importantly, part of the reason I made an album with my band?

Waddy Wachtel plays lead guitar on an album called Buds.  A concept album about a marijuana grower by a group calling themselves Paraphernalia.

Paraphernalia was a project by Listening Poster Jon Rosenberg and his writing partner, Mike Thompson.

When Jon and I reconnected and he gave me a copy of his CD I was sort of stunned. At that point I was still naive about music production and really didn’t know too many people who had produced their own album. Jon and I started writing songs together and I wanted nothing more than to make a CD of my own.

Throttle Back Sparky’s first EP was borne of that dream. 7 songs, tracked in 2 days, mixed in, I think, one and, dammit it sounded pretty good. Mike even played Trombone on one of our tracks.

And that is how Throttle Back Sparky is connected to Ronin.
