The 1980 Listening Post - Wildlife - Burning

 1980 Housekeeping

Wildlife

Burning

Genre: Power Rock

2.5 out of 5

This band’s biggest claim to fame is the song that did NOT make the cut. “Shot in the Dark” would become a Top Ten hit for Ozzy Osbourne, who would claim authorship and cut these guys out of the royalties.

I don’t know how much that matters to Steve Overland, leader of this group because that guy has been putting out records ever since. Mainly with the band FM. So, if you like FM, you might like this. But if you only sort of like FM you will not like this rock entry.

This is squarely the sound of the 70s dying and trying to find relevance.

Produced by Rupert Hine you might not be surprised to learnt that the best song here is written by one Russ Ballard. Not the one by Hine. THAT one, “Incredible Shrinking Love” is a dumpster fire. No, “I’m Winning” sounds like the kind of stuff that Bon Jovi would turn to gold just a few years later.
